cbc literary awards

hey everyone,

in case you haven't heard, the CBC are holding a poetry/short story/creative non-fiction contest. and you guys should submit something!! :) one condition not to overlook though: we can't submit anything that's been posted online b/c it's considered "published", and therefore not eligible for submission. (which sucks b/c i really wanted to post one that i blogged!)

anyhow, hope you guys consider this. happy DPSing

DPS: Resurrection

Plans are afoot to "revivify" this in some form in the coming 07-08 year. Don't say we didn't warn you.

die, dying, dead

It appears that this blog, like the weekly DPS meetings, is dead. I hope the vision doesn't entirely die. The DPS should be ressurected next year if the remaining members are not all too busy.

As for now, I'm assuming this is it. God bless the DPS, we love you still! May people be blessed by this dead site still!

the barrens

well isn't this a snowy landscape
where you dwell, where you hide
beneath fallen evergreens and the sun
you're shying away from
the very thing you claim to need

i tried to show you
and you happily acquiesced
joyfully running away
merrily screaming murders

you make me want to say
that love is just the air

concerning futility

today i
cast a stare into my own eyes
and their gaze envelops me in flame
of contentment

years of shattering skull
into shards of failure - a broken face
on a wall of ambition
it dies, shattered
i die, in shards

the words you said to me
the way you couldn't turn

wind in hair, glancing offshore

wind in hair, glancing offshore

stand with one leg
a little twisted to the side
while within I hold thoughts
which for now I hide

hold the shoreline alone
lock my vision with watery gaze
on this ocean I find
dreams, which set this heart ablaze

liquids and masses;
I mediate between hope and fear
on this shore of reason
praying that courage is near

stand with one leg
in the fluid, one in the sand
preparing adrenaline leap
into waters of uncertain hand

in days gone by

NOTE: This is a compilational work. It incorporates elements of poetry pulled out of poems gone by and amalgamates them into one work. It is not "new", just newly organized as a unit.

oh! I'd let you kill me just to put a smile on your face
and I'd die happy seeing it there

she was unreachable,
transient - shifting through my cells
mindbait or catalyst
both

staring across an expanse of sand
desert scorching all I've planned
hold me now within your hand
oasis in a barren land

felt a sleep coming over
felt a sad presence
felt nothing but death
felt nothing but death

I'm welling up with saline rebirth,
this is my salvation from you

this dream has breathed its last
and now it flickers and fades
into a collage of invisible things
hiding beneath vulture's wings

cut the neck
let the wound
run

every day a million miracles of us
because it's always about us

I will wait forever, yes
so close always; to being convinced
this solitude eternal
and for now I'll love it
so much more than anyone else
so little restraint left
rejection is my sweet embrace
how could I ever want more

just please another minute
you are my horizon

call for poetry (this should be the spot!)

hi DPSers,

i'm asking if any of you talented, enlightened, creative, and mildly insano poets would like to showcase your poetry. it's for the TISA charity International Dinner called "Mama's Kitchen" in January 07. i'm helping out with their auction event, and i'm asking if i auction off your poems. the funds will go towards a World Vision project which will provide education oppurtunities for girls in China and children in various African countries. there'll be more postering and info about this fundraising event around campus in the coming week or so.

i know that last year there was talk about having a zine of our favourite poems--if you guys are interested in perhaps using the same three poems, or maybe a couple other ones you think are especially great for this auction, please let me know! or even if you want to pick one you like and want to maybe frame it, that's something that we would love too.

interests and questions and poems to val plz what.hullabaloo@gmail.com
